Kirkby Malzeard

The Brief

The site contained a Grade II Listed barn in the beautiful Nidderdale village of Kirkby Malzeard, near Ripon, which sits in the Nidderdale AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty).

The original barn had been Listed, along with several other buildings in the village, for its special architectural or historic interest.

The Barn was built in 1791, with coursed stone and coped ashlar gables and quoins, and a large stable doorway. It had most recently been used for farm storage.

We created Architectural designs to build a new stone four bedroomed dwelling of substantial proportions within the grounds of the barn, including the conversion of the Listed barn itself to form garaging and a home office.

The scheme was created sympathetically, using similar coursed stone with dressed stone detailing, to ensure it blended easily into its historic village environment surroundings.
